Morpheus went off before to discuss the bill with the front desk as they want to charge us for a deluxe suite which is like over $200 a night. I don't think so and while your at it get us out of this friggin room. This did indeed happen, ok we're still on the ground floor but we're in the middle of the gardens and I can see the ocean as I am typing this to you....
Morpheus has been great today, he sorted out the room bill, got us another
room AND repacked my case and moved all our stuff into the new room.
What a sweetie, then again he knows how important it is for me to get the
sun while I can in the last few days that we have here. And did I
get the sun or what, my chest and stomach are bright red. Yes Kiwi
you were right!! Honestly though it's not that bad, it doesn't sting
that much and I haven't started getting all weird and cold like I usually
do when I've had too much sun.
I finished my "Tales of the City" book today by Armisted Maupin. I read it over 10 years ago and also watched the mini series but reading it again has made me feel great. I love his work, he's a great writer.
So most of today we spent on the beach, lovely relaxing, couple of Dos Equis, what could be better. Most of the women here are going topless, which I did the first few days when I was at the other beaches but there's something weird about being topless right in front of the beach restaurant. You know with all the dressed people walking by you and so forth. Yes I am a prude but I don't particularly like seeing another woman's tits while I'm eating a chicken fajita...know what I mean???
This afternoon we saw an incident. Yeah this Mexican copper was
screaming and blowing his whistle at this fancy car full of spanish rich
kids it looked like. Apparently they had gone down a street that
was a one way (not their way) and so he was casually walking after the
car, blowing on his whistle looking very bothered. Anyway the car
just ignored him and drove off, it was great so me and Morpheus followed
the car as well. Anyway the car HAD to stop because they drove on
to 5th Ave. which is a pedestrian street only. So as the copper approached
they turned the car around and practically drove into him. He slammed
the front of the car with his fists and made everyone get out. Of
course by now the whole street was watching. The rich kids then turned
on this copper and one woman began to push him away which was very exciting.
Then some of them walked off and left this one woman plus a guy to drive
the car off, which they did real quick again down the pedestrian street.
The copper continued to walk behind them until he reached the car.
He then tried to get the number plate off the back but they put their reverse
lights on and slightly pulled back into him....I'm telling you this was
great stuff. Mexican standoff off or what?? Anyway he
managed to get the plate and just walked off. Apparently according
to Santino they do that because then they HAVE TO go to the police station
and pay the fine just to get their plates back or else they wouldn't turn
up. Cheeky bastards or what, very brave though, I wouldn't mess with
the Mexican police, not after what happened to Santino
(see Dec 31)
I must reiterate how much I love the Mexicans here, they really are the warmest, kindest people ever. It really makes you wonder why the Brits and Americans are such miserable bastards.!! You know what our problem is? we have everything and we still moan and gripe. Some of the Mexicans here don't have much at all but they smile ALL THE TIME, its great to be around people like that, makes you appreciate things more.
So today we booked a scuba diving trip for this coming Thursday.
God I am seriously nervous. We've never done it before but decided
that we should. The guy that we booked it through obviously thought
we were idiots for not doing it at the beginning of our holiday so that
we could by now be certified but I didn't want to be diving EVERY
DAY while we were here. So we thought we'd do it for a total of 3
hours on Thursday, then when we get back to New York, I'll find us a place
to re-dive and take the exam there, then we come back here and do the last
'open water' dive here until we get certified. Sounds like a plan,
especially if we rent our 'Dome" summer house on Fire Island for one week,
then we can use that money to fly here and finish our dive lessons.
Definitely sounds like a good plan, especially if I can talk Morpheus into
staying at the Yoga retreat in Maya Tulum.
OK that's enough for today, I'm off to take a painful shower due to
my sunburn and have a glass of ice cold white wine. Tonight we're
heading our to a new bar and restaurant in town that has only been open
about a week, it looks dead trendy, very New York. Then afterwards
we'll go see Santino and have a few Tequilas. Then again tomorrow
we're going to Xcater for the day which has snorkeling areas and dolphin
swims so I need to get up early, get my back tanned and off we go.
adios amigos.....
