Mon Apr 29, 2002 - 3:05pm Check out my weekend in Chicago

Sorry for the late hour, but to be honest I spent most of the morning in bed with a sick stomach and a seriously sore back.

The reason why? Killer fucking flight that's why.

Let me explain....

So we bid farewell to lovely Jules and Nik and head to O'Hare Airport for our 2pm flight back to New York. Yeah the weather was really bad the day before but here now in Chicago it was slightly chilly but very still.

So we check in and find that our flight is now leaving at 2:45pm and not 2pm, due to bad weather in New York, plus there were a lot of flights back to the Big Apple so we were put in a queuing system. This means that basically we board our flight at 2:30pm but then we are sat on the tarmac queuing to take off for nearly 2 fucking hours. I mean what can you do,...nothing that's what, absolutely nothing, just sit there and wait. Of course Morpheus puts his head down and crashes, whereas I'm stuck in the middle of the three seats with some spotty dick next to me who was clearly way too cheerful considering the circumstances...I hate happy people when a situation is dire.

Ok so finally we take off and the flights going along nicely, I'm reading my stupid biography on Madonna while drinking my virgin mary.

Then just as I thought we would start to descend our wanker captain gets on the speaker and informs us that we can't land just yet because the weather is too rough and that we're just going to circle around Pennsylvania for a while until he hears different from Air Traffice Control....oh but not to worry as there's plenty of GAS!!

Excuse me motherfucker???????

So there we were for another two hours, hovering around the skies just waiting to be allowed to land. As you can imagine by this time I had completely HAD ENOUGH and just wanted off the plane and onto my couch with a plate of Indian take-out.

The worse was still to come.....

We finally hear from our captain that it's safe to descend and we begin. OH MY GOD the turbulence was just dreadful and unfortunately with age I have come to dislike flying rather a lot which is strange considering that I've been travelling on planes since before I could walk. However this is how I feel and last night's experience has completely shaken me to the core. You couldn't see anything outside the window for all the thick misty clouds that were surrounding, then without warning a flash of lightning hit the left wing, well, it hit us, not sure where but the flash of light and the bang was like a bomb had gone off. Of course I yelped and clung on to Morpheus like a small child. I was absolutely terrified and really thought we were going to die, the lightning was crashing down all around us, the plane either shook or just dropped, you know when you have that feeling when your going down an lift (elevator) too fast and your stomach lurches down??/ Well that's what it was like.

Our descent literally must of taken 25-30 minutes, it just went on and on and the closer we got to ground the more the plane shook. Finally the clouds suddenly cleared and there were the ground headlights that formed the lanes that the aircraft was to land on. How the hell the captain could see anything is beyond me. I think though the worst was when we touched ground, it hit with such a bang that we rose up from our seats, nearly hitting our heads on the ceiling, I really thought I was going to piss myself, it was awful. Even after we'd landed and joined our exit lane the air hostess who was sat right behind us (we were on the very last row) said that she thought it was lucky that the air-masks hadn't dropped down, because of the force of our landing....yikes!!

So anyway people, after an absolutely lovely and fabulous weekend, it unfortunately ended up with the worst journey I've ever encounted and to be honest I'd rather not even think about getting on a plane again for rather a long time.

We arrived home completely exhausted and still shaken up. All I can say is thank god my husband was there, else I would of probably grabbed onto the spotty happy bastard next to me.  Although to be honest he also looked pretty stunned and upset when we landed, it was all round pretty bad, even the captain said over the aircraft that he was "sure glad it was over".

I will go back and fill you in on the Chicago trip before the end of today. I'm very sorry but I forgot my camera so there's no pics of my great great pals, then again Jules normally hates pics of herself, so she probably wouldn't be too impressed to have herself put out on the web for all to see.

Glad to be home........

Later.....
