A BRILLIANT "COMEDY OF ERRORS"!!...

Sun Aug 18, 2002 -

So Aphrodite and Hermes arrived yesterday as last night we were going to see "The Comedy of Errors" at Boscobel.  We came last year to see "Romeo and Juliet", but then it was with Carol and Noel.

My only worry was the weather, as its soo sticky at the moment.

We decide to eat BEFORE we leave.  Well you see lots of people take their blankets and chairs and eat a picnic on the Boscobel grounds before the show, but it was so hot out that it would of been unbearable.  Anyway last year Mary Anne managed to spill (by mistake) red wine all over Professor's (god it was so funny) white pants and he had a fit, so we didn't really want a repeat performance of that this year.

I must recommend the "Pink Teacups" macaroni and cheese, as it's fantastic, dead creamy and absolutely totally fattening but just yummy.  So we had that with fried chicken and we were off.

We got a good parking spot on the lawn and very near to the entrance, (good when leaving) and walked towards the marquee. People were already sat in their seats, which seemed insane to me in this heat especially when there was 20 minutes to go before curtain...idiots.  So we all walked down to the edge of the garden.

It's so beautiful down here, HOT, but very beautiful.  A couple of the props were laying around near the edge, which is what they did last year, you see they use all of the gardens as the stage and therefore sometimes have to change costumes or props in the gardens and not just back stage.  I think it's great the way they integrate the gardens with the play.

The bell rang and we all headed towards the tent.  Lots of people had been smart and brought fans with them but unfortunately we're not that clever, and had to make do with our programs.

We soon stopped feeling sorry for ourselves when the cast one by one came out draped in heavy linen jackets with waist-coats underneath.  God they must of been soaked.  Actually one of the actors (she played Juliet's nurse last year) started to sweat as it appeared on her dress, though she got away with it as her acting was very impressive.

In fact I could hardly fault any of the actors, they were brilliant.  I haven't seen or read "Comedy of Errors" before but soon picked it up, it's fun and their adaptation was really good, especially in the second half, it jazzed up enormously and Professor laughed so hard at one point I thought he was going to choke to death.  Really I urge you to go, they close September 1st I think.  It really was hysterical, great punch lines and the timing was just perfection.  It was great.  Not sure if Hermes liked it that much, he didn't seem that enamored with it, but to be honest a lot of theatre you couldn't drag me to, as I get bored VERY easily and my attention drifts.

During the intermission, Mary Anne and myself went to find the toilets.  Now be honest, what what do most of you do in the bathroom?  Me? well I just, in general, when it's one of those nasty outside portaloos (that's what we call them in England), you go in, try NOT to touch anything, unzip or lift, knickers down, hover over seat and wee.  That's it, not rocket science.  I swear to god, Mary Anne and I were stood in that bloody line for like 15 minutes waiting for approximately 9 women that were ahead of us, to use the loo.  WHAT DO THEY DO IN THERE? Good god it's SOO BLOODY ANNOYING.  It's not like you want to stay in there and fix your lipstick, it's disgusting, pee and get out lady...

So that was our night at the T-H-E-E-A-T-R-E-, and very enjoyable it was to.

After, we drove back to Catherine's where I'm glad to say Catherine was, hanging out with her crazy dad Harry, a man of few words, but when they come...watch out!!

We stayed for a few glasses of wine, then went back and watched "Rosemary's Baby", a slight upgrade from Friday's American Pie II and one of my favorite all time films.

TODAY
Aphrodite tried her damndest to get us all up today by 10:30 so that we could get to the stupid diner in town before 11:30 because after that you CANNOT get breakfast.  Trying telling Professor he can't have his eggs...yeah, exactly.

Unfortunately Hermes decided to be ever so good and be one of the first to be up, (he's usually the last) but he also decided to take a shower, so by the time he was out, it was getting rather late and so we decided to go into town and get bagels and crumb cake instead.  Now this would of been fine, except that Professor was banging around the house like a man possessed and Mary Anne, well, she burnt the bagels, so there was none for breakfast.

It could of turned out quite nasty as we were all getting a bit edgy but Mary Anne came up with the plan of us getting out of the house, going elsewhere for breakfast and leaving Dakota (the dog) with grumpy, farty, Professor.... What a fine idea.

When we came back he seemed fine, clearly got his bad mood out of his system, had mowed the lawn and was presently doing a Chain Saw Massacre interpretation on the front of the house.

Hermes and Aphrodite left and me and Morpheus sat and read the New York Times.

Later on I made Professor give me more of his macaroni and cheese with chicken then we packed up and left, onward bound for New York.

Tonight Morpheus and I watched the very silly but rather gruesome "Resident Evil" with Milla Jojovich.  Pretty stupid, but good mindless crap, when that's really all your in the mood for.
