They were supposed to begin strikes this morning which was putting the city on high alert as how are people supposed to GET IN to the city to work if there isn't any buses or subways running? It wasn't going to affect people like myself or Morpheus as I always walk over to the theatre and Morpheus could of caught a cab, OR gotten the PATH up to 33rd Street and walked the rest to 49th and 7th Avenue.
Basically last year they wanted a pay rise of over 8%, they have now lowered that to 6% but it's still a lot more than most blue collared workers get, the police for instance, get a measley salary, also the nurses, just like in England, hardly a wage at all, more like a big tip, it's ridiculous. They are at least getting a reasonable wage, AND full health and insurance coverage, which not all workers get in this city, they should appreciate that.
My friend Moranis was just instant messaging me, and I asked him his opinion about the whole strike thing. Safe to say he's not particularly happy and is pissed that the subway workers keep saying that the New Yorkers are...."right behind us", yeah, no, we're not. He was telling me that all of our Broadway actors took PAY CUTS last year after 9/11. His own father who was a teacher went WITHOUT a contract for over 2 years, but did he strike, NO, because he knew how important it was for the children to keep learning. You don't just fucking strike as and when it suits you, jesus people have to get to work, you can't do that, especially at Christmas time, which is clearly why they're doing it.
Anyway it's certainly not over yet, they're still in negotiations and I guess it's a waiting game now..
So what else? well basically I have a lot of running around to do this week. It's Christmas for one, AND we're off to Mexico this Saturday so I need to get my arse in gear and get on with my shopping and all my other personal little things before I leave.
So today I will soon head up to the gym and then, I promise continue to do the rest of the Las Vegas trip pages. Yeah I'm aware that I have Dec 6 thru 10th to still do, really sorry about that, but today I'm going to pick up the pictures, so you'll at least have those to look at. I'm so sorry but honestly I have been busy with things. Also this afternoon I really do need to buy some lights for my little 6 ft tree which is dead cute, AND get some of my presents wrapped. There's nothing worse than a tree WITHOUT presents underneath.
So then tomorrow I'm meeting Kiwi Boy for brunch and then we have a couple of rather exciting chores to do. Tomorrow night is playing the greed game with Mafia Princess, Carol, Aphrodite and Tex Man with nibbles and wine. Don't worry I'll explain the whole greed game on Wed. Then Wednesday I have to go to the theatre and present my secret santa daft gift to....well, I can't say now can I? Then Thursday it's Candy, Kiwi and Buddy Weiser round to swap gifts, then Friday it's the theatre Christmas do plus proper secret santa gift swapping, then hopefully Friday night I can be left to pack and get psyched for my holidays....yeah baby!!
