So it would seem that a pal of mine has Gout or if you want to be medically smart assed Hyperuricemia; Uric Acid. Shit I thought that kind of thing went out with the Plague? But apparently not. Obviously I'm not going to name names, but I was talking to this pal of mine the other day and yes he was telling me how he's trying to take it easy right now, regarding good food and drinking as his Gout was playing him up. When he says "playing him up" he basically means that if he spends ONE NIGHT eating good restaurant food and drinking, then for the next 3 days he's in huge amounts of pain, to the point where even a thin cotton bed sheet touching his leg in the night really hurts. Can you imagine how much that would suck? and OH MY GOD, then how come half the world doesn't have bloody Gout? Well it seems that the others causes of Gout can be a combination of hormonal and genetic factors that cause metabolic abnormalities OR the remaining 1% of primary causes of Gout are two rare inherited enzyme defects that affect purine synethesis in the cells, whatever that means, but that's why I think my friend has it. So don't go panicking people, Gout isn't common. HOWEVER, you might want to avoid:
Aspirin. Low doses (not high doses) of aspirin reduce uric acid excretion and increase the chance for hyperuricemia. This may be a problem for older people who take baby aspirin (81 mg) to protect against heart disease. (High doses have the opposite effect.)
Niacin.
Exposure to Lead. Chronic occupational exposure to lead is associated with build-up of uric acid and a high incidence of gout. A 2002 study also suggested that persistent low-level exposure to lead may also increase the risk for gout.
Other Conditions. A number of other conditions can cause gout. They include the following:
Leukemia.
Lymphoma.
Psoriasis.
Alrighty then, so what else? Oh yeah last night I went up to Harlem to visit Marla and Chesty Bush. Also my pal Kerry was there with her lovely professor like boyfriend (incredibly smart) Andrew. And of course the lady of the moment was Alexandra who is growing and at 9 weeks is just totally perfect and she smiles, AT ME MAINLY, oh but honestly she really is the most beautiful little girl ever. Anyway we sat and drank and ate the most delicious red snapper, which Chesty Bush had cooked to perfection. It was a very fun evening, lovely house, great company.
So I've still yet to get my little christmas trees. Well yesterday I was going to try, but then I got held back at work as we had MTV in the club last night for a private sit down dinner, so I was responsible for decorating each of the 4 tables and making them look all festive and christmasy. I think I did a pretty good job, but it left me late, so I had to rush back, take another shower and go get the subway up to Harlem, which if you get the A Train is pretty quick, 20 minutes or so? not bad.
Yes of course car service back, I'm not THAT stupid.
