So what else? well the weekend was fun, as always. Friday we chilled, had our own little fun like we do most Fridays, got up really early Saturday, like bloody 8am or something, went out for break and back home before bloody 10....HEELLLLOOO? it's the weekend honey, give me a break. Actually we went to La Gamin for breakfast, yummy, I had a poached egg on a potato cake with ratatouille which was just delicious and pretty good healthy wise for breakfast don't you think?
Yeah so like I said we were back home early, read all the papers then both got bored. Well we were going to shop, or at least I was and he was going to paint, but it didn't happen. So we hung around for a while, then unfortunately he made me get ready and go out to a party that I didn't really want to go to. Remember I told you about Ivana and her boyfriend who were going to buy Mother Nature but then put that on hold until next Feb, or so they said? Well yeah it was their party? so you can imagine how I felt. Besides I hate friggin parties, can't be bothered.
Actually you know it wasn't too bad? He lives in a big fuck off apartment over on the Bowery, right near CBGB in fact. Then again that part of town has really changed, it's no way like it used to be, now there's all these new complexes being built and Walmart's etc so the grunge aspect of it has totally gone, which is a shame really, lots of cool history in that part of town.
So yeah anyway there was a few people there when we arrived, nice enough people but you wouldn't want to go bowling with them. The apartment is pretty big, he has like 4 bedrooms, but one of them is his office, lots of windows and tons of friggin storage space. It's not in my style, but hey it's big enough with lots of space, that's all you need right? He also has access to his own private roof deck as he's on the top, so that's nice. Oh yeah he'll have lots of friends by summer time.
Anyway this party was basically a networking schmoozing affair, tons of people from all walks of life that didn't know each, but chit chatted politely. Myself and Stephen kept pretty much to ourselves, well until Stephen got plastered on all the red wine he was chucking back, so then I lost him totally as he swanned around the place chatting to all and sundry.
I did meet a couple of very interesting women, one called Jane, she's a journalist for the New York Times Business section. What a riot she was. You wouldn't think it looking at her, very prim and proper looking, but what a quick and sick sense of humour, oh yeah she was a blast. Also a lovely little woman called Jay who works for the United States Department of State Office of International Visitors...phew that's a long title. Just read it off her business card. Anyway she just loved Stephen's work as Andrea and Ivana had kindly left the NY Art Media magazine on their coffee table (least they could) so everyone could see his work. Anyway she introduced Stephen to a few people, which I thought was great. Really funny, clever lady, liked her a lot. Of course then there were just your idiots that you always get at these kind of parties. Like the two tanned people that came in. Well she was blonde (really?) wearing a full length mink coat, god knows how many of those poor creatures were poured into that thing? She had a tight tight black mini dress on with huge fuck off stilettos and fuck off boobs to match. She just looked so L.A. you know? Her boyfriend, oh christ, he was all cowboy boots, tight jeans, jacket with collar turned up, total tosser, with the fake tan and everything. I have no idea who they were or who they knew, but they were just plasticky and nasty.
Lots of pretty women there, some silly, some smart. The guys were horrible, except Charles who was also one of the hosts at the party and what a great host he was. He's in the music business, producer I think? Anyway he was salsa dancing and doing a very good job of it. We got talking to him and it turns out that his mother was married to Tito Puente, who basically was the King of Salsa. You should of seen Stephen's face when Charles mentioned it, I thought he was going to fall over. Well Stephen just LOVES the latin salsa guys...remember the Buena Vista Social Club? well there you go, so yeah he was a little impressed to say the least. This Charles guy also throws a birthday bash every year for Candido who is the King of Conga, so yeah Stephen was a little in awe of this chap. So yeah business cards were exchanged and Charles even said that he would get a collection of his Cuban music and send it over to us, which I thought was really sweet of him.
So yeah lots of good connections were made for Stephen which was great. It was kind of fun, but around 11:30 I was dying, very tired and very bored. But of course because Andrea was getting a little tipsy he wanted Stephen to stay so that he could give him a deposit (after all) for Mother Nature. So of course this was all very confusing, but good also. So we took our coats off and stayed a little longer. The only thing was that I hated having to wait for Andrea to give Stephen a check, just didn't sit well with me. Anyway the boys eventually went into Andrea's office to discuss the painting and do money stuff etc. Of course they had no concept of time, so I eventually went in and pretty much demanded that Stephen shift himself. He told me to relax, I lost it, slammed the door on the way out (didn't mean to) and left. Stephen followed me, we had words on the street, which was crazy as it was fucking freezing, but we needed to sort things out.
Anyway that was that. Yesterday I got up, immediately sent an email to Andrea thanking him for the party and apologising for my childish petulant behavior. He wrote back saying.."don't be silly" kind of email, but that he thanked me for my thoughtfulness yada yada yada and that was it. You see I can be a big girl when I want to be, it's always a good thing to know when you've fucked up and need to correct it.
So today? well I'm here, off to work around 2pm I think? quietish day. Probably have a drink with Mark and Paul this evening? Then the rest of this week I have to continue shopping for Stephen and getting some bubbly, lox and bagels for christmas day...yay!!
Oh crap must go to Toys R Us for Lia, Bubbles daughter, need to take something to give to her for Christmas Day. I wanted to buy her that Bella Dancerella toy but you can't that fucking thing anywhere, I reckon all the parents throughout the country have gotten their 5 year olds that thing....
Right I'm off, have a good day..
P.S. anyone been to Panama? we want to go next Feb/March...possibly somewhere on the Caribbean side, you know nice beach etc, but not expensive???
